World of Warcraft – Item Upgrading Item upgrading allows players to boost an item's gear score up to 700, and then add a final perk. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you decide to take them to the Kiln. Certain items can be upgraded to benefit from their unique stats (like perfect made breakpoint armour that can be rolled to use in melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons do not change significantly after an upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading. Weapons Upgrades to weapons can boost their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit probability and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also have a flat bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. Additionally some weapons come with a set bonus which is activated when three or more of the same weapon is present on a single unit. This bonus can sometimes exceed the damage a weapon upgrade can do on its own. The cost of upgrading a weapon depends on its rarity and level. After you've completed the main side quest and completed the corresponding fountain you'll be able to speak to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrade menu. Each piece of armor can be upgraded up to three levels, and the amount of materials and Rupees needed for each will vary. You'll need anywhere from three Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees to upgrade the initial armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade the next one. The Champion Leathers, as an example, can be upgraded to a 5 defense rating, which will allow you to keep up in frigid environments with a large group of foes. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded as high as +20 defense to ensure you're able to survive a battle with your comrades. You can't upgrade armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior, you should focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical strength or spell power. It is also recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you will still be wearing by the end of the story, like the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you wear in the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant Mask. By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. You'll typically want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to win the game. For example the Longsword or Battleaxe. But it's useful to have some upgrades to the armor on your chest and helmets so that you can escape some monsters. Potions Potions are liquids that when consumed by the player, give a temporary effect. There are five kinds of potions, each with different effects and durations. Upgrades to potion cost a certain amount of XP. These can be earned by making them on a table or in the Alchemist's chest. Select “Upgrade” from the menu. This will open a GUI where you can choose the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they will produce when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches of up to five at a time, and their XP will be added to the total XP you have. Trinkets A trinket is a small and affordable ornament or piece of jewelry. It could also be an object or ornament that has a purpose but is not important, like a Thimble. In certain cultures, a trinket is used to signify affection or friendship, specifically between family members. Players can upgrade trinkets in addition to weapons or armor, as well as potions. Upgrades can be made by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Unlike other item upgrades, trinkets can be traded out at any time without losing their status. The upgrade vendors are located in major cities and in the capital of each zone, and in in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket. Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to buying a new trinket. It can be done by the player for just 12 tokens. This allows players to increase both their power and value with time. They can be traded among players and are a viable alternative to gold. In general players should make upgrades to their highest priority items first. This typically means the top-of-the-line items for their class, then their secondaries and then other pieces of gear that they will not be replacing soon (for example, a ring or cloak). When choosing which items to upgrade players should take into account the preferred statistics of their class. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats for a tank player then they should consider upgrading their helm, chest and shoulders. Trinkets are able to be upgraded to a higher ilvl once they're no longer needed, and the new trinket will have an additional upgrade bonus of 1. Re-upgrading will destroy the trinket unless it can be saved using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets are more expensive than other upgrades, but still cheaper than buying a new one.
